Building stronger communities
Door knocking in Russell Street area
Now that summer has arrived and (hopefully) the sun is shining, Community Connectors are out exploring opportunities with city centre residents.
Last year, you may have met Saskia Townsend and Chloe Lawrence when they knocked on doors in the Russell Street area. They wanted to find out what residents would like to see more of in their neighbourhood and how they could be best supported to make community life better.
Door knocking in this way gave local residents, who may be housebound or who are not connected with local activities, an opportunity to have their say.
‘It was great to hear about the skills, ideas and passions you have to offer that can improve life in this neighbourhood,’ said Community Connector Saskia Townsend.
This information will now be used by local organisations and groups, as well as the council, to help plan future groups, activities and schemes.
‘We were also delighted to hear about some of the fantastic local community “hidden gems” in the city centre, such as the Give and Take box at Crocodile Court, which was built to encourage neighbours to share useful items with one another,’ Saskia continued.
There are now plans to invite city centre local residents to a social space to sound out ideas on how to make your community life flourish.
In addition, Community Connectors will also be talking to residents and listening to ideas about the future usage of the multi-use games area (MUGA) on Ely Street.
‘There’s a lot happening and we are very excited about all the ways we can support you to improve your community,’ said Community Connector Chloe Lawrence. ‘So if you live in this area and you’d like to get involved, do get in touch with us. We’d love to pop by for a chat.’
If you would like to get involved with this or other projects, contact one of your local Community Connectors.
